On Sunday 22nd March, 2 Junior lads from Burton Leander, Coby Press and James Lee, made their way to Holme pierrepont in Nottingham, to take part in the trials to represent the East Midlands at the up comng Junior Inter Regional Regatta. (JIRR)
The day started with an early arrival, boat unloding and rigging up, then the boys got themselves warmed up and ready for action. The conditions were probably the best they could of hoped for, The sun was shinning, the wind was low which meant that it was one of those rare occasions where the lake was calm and flat.
Both boys should of had 2 competitors each in their catergorys, but with Boston not attending, this meant Press had no opponents at all, so it was a mental game to push himself to get the best time, and Lee had just one opponent to beat from Loughbrough.
Press with no competition gained himself an automatic place to represent the East Midlands at JIRR in the J15 1x caterogry. Even though his entry was effectively automatic he still rowed well and posted a respectable time over the 1500m course.
Lee also rowed the course well, beating his Loughbrough competitior and securing his place as the J14 1X East Midlands represntative at the upcoming JIRR. HIs time over the course was just 10 seconds slower than his J15 clubmate Press.
We are proud to have both these members of our club going to JIRR on 25th April and we are looking forward to their success.
